Avatar
Watching Avatar last night for the second time, I realized that it was one of the most fascinating movies I’ve ever seen, not merely for its cinematic splendor, but for its message. Avatar is about what we did to the Native Americans. It’s about the Vietnam War, our invasion and occupation of Iraq, and the plight of the Palestinians. It’s about the enslavement, torture, and slaughter of billions of nonhuman animals. It’s about the harmful junk we put in our bodies, and how we are ravaging our environment. It’s about how we perceive and treat the poor, the undereducated, those who are different. It’s about otherization. It’s about what we do to those less powerful, and how ultimately, that violence comes around and destroys us all.
